This was the first short story I've read on Substack that I throughly and unabashedly enjoyed. I had to make no accommodations to my stylistic preferences and my love of subtle emotional honesty. I didn't have to pretend to love genre when I just want slices of life.
Thank you. For real for reals This was such a simple joy.
Thanks, Cory! I really appreciate it. I've found myself writing a mix of genres this year in this project, but interestingly the more realistic, slice of life stories seem to be getting the warmest response. Well, that, and ghost stories.
Oh I enjoyed this! “Was it enough?” Can’t know, but you had the reader experience the same refreshing twist as she did, having expected to be disappointed by him, and being pleasantly surprised. So, maybe!
Terrific. So compact and so powerful. The delicacy of the snow, the detail of her experiencing what is beautiful and peaceful and potentially deadly. And a strong finish that took me by surprise. Thank you.

Thanks so much, Stephanie!
